Monotypes

Project Type

Monotypes

Date

Fall 2024

These monotypes were created in my college printmaking class. Monotype is a type of printmaking process made by smearing ink on a piece of clear plexiglass and printing it onto paper. Monotypes can be made either reductively (covering the glass in ink and removing it where you want white to show up) or additively (adding ink where you want dark spots). Monotypes are typically made quickly, giving them a messy, spontaneous appearance. Unlike other forms of printmaking, a monotype can only be printed once. However, there is usually enough left over ink on the plate to reapply ink to the same areas or to make a lighter version of the original. This second state is called a ghost print.
